Spring Cleaning / Deep Cleaning season is here! Little by little, the temperature increases, you can smell the newly bloomed flowers, and colors are everywhere. I want to share with you my 10 top secrets to bring the season inside our homes.
Declutter. Don’t fear getting rid of old objects that do not serve you anymore, old clothes that keep reminding you how skinny you used to be, and old pieces that you got from the in-laws that you didn’t like in the first place. Get rid of them! Here is my Fav company to arrange pick-ups.
Fresh Air. Open the windows, yes, I know, I’m messing with the air conditioner/heat perfect temperature, but let the fresh air get in and circulate all over your house. One hour first thing in the morning is the best. Not only it cleans your lungs, but also boosts your mood, lowers your heart rate, increases energy levels, and even improves digestion. Read this if you want to know more.
Neutral colors. Keep your house neutral-colored and play with colorful small accents each spring. Off-white sofa with accent pillows and a throw? Just divine! Green! Green is the color for this 2023 Spring, but you don’t need to follow the trends. You do you!
One essence. Think about your body and how you will use different smells for deodorant, body lotion, soap, and perfume. It can be overwhelming! Same with your home, pick one subtle smell you can use for all your smell products, so your house has ONE single signature smell. According to research, Vanilla is the most liked smell by most people. You can’t go wrong with this.
Pets and kids. Use this time to also declutter their spaces. Change the kitty litter box and get a fresh one, get new socks and underwear for kids, pack memories, and keep only the toys/gadgets that they like now, they change tremendously every six months.
Pantry, fridge, and freezer. Take everything out, look at the expiration dates and you will be amazed. Most of the items you didn’t even know you had are expired! Don’t buy them again, if you kept them there for 6 months, you probably don’t need them. Clear everything up!
Towels and bedding. I have a non-negotiable tip here! 100% cotton always. Buy good quality but non-expensive, so you can change them as needed. You do not need 20 towels filling up your linen closet, you need 2 sets per person. I love Marshalls or Costco for good and affordable quality bedding. (Well, my very secret place is the RH outlet – two hours away, but totally worth it).
